چکیده
1 Objectives The objective is to investigate continuous-time models of computation and the complexity thereof. Two complementary approaches will be followed. On one hand, at a more abstract level, the focus is on the theory of real recursive functions. The main objectives are: 1) clarify the algebraic properties of the relations between analog and standard notions of complexity; 2) find analog characterizations of low time complexity classes; 3) address open problems in computational complexity in a continuous setting; 4) investigate further the connections of classes of real recursive functions with continuous dynamical systems. On the other hand, the focus is on certain continuous dynamical systems. In particular, the dynamics of continuous time neural networks and the sensitivity to noise of analog circuits will be investigated. It is expected that the research will clarify how suitable models of computation may be proposed under these paradigms and which is the right notion of complexity for such systems. 2 The project and the long term objectives of the principal investigator (PI) Previous work of the PI focused mainly on the theory of real recursive functions, on the characterization, in terms of computacional complexity, of algebras of real recursive functions and on their relations to analog circuits and continuous dynamical systems. It is expected that this line of reseach will contribute further to understanding the relationship between standard and analog computation and to clarify the notion of computational complexity for dynamical systems. Besides extending the previous work of the PI on foundations, namely on complexity theory and computable analysis, it is important to explore the same issues for specific continuous time models of computation, which model actual information processing systems. The research team includes both undergraduates working on recursion over the reals and analog circuits, and graduate members with expertise on category theory and on continuous time neural networks , who will contribute to pursue the goals of the investigation.

Concurrent Games with Tail Objectives
We study infinite stochastic games played by two-players over a finite state space, with objectives specified by sets of infinite traces. The games are concurrent (players make moves simultaneously and independently), stochastic (the next state is determined by a probability distribution that depends on the current state and chosen moves of the players) and infinite (proceeds for infinite numbe...
متن کاملStochastic Timed Games Revisited
Stochastic timed games (STGs), introduced by Bouyer and Forejt, naturally generalize both continuous-time Markov chains and timed automata by providing a partition of the locations between those controlled by two players (Player Box and Player Diamond) with competing objectives and those governed by stochastic laws. Depending on the number of players—2, 1, or 0—subclasses of stochastic timed ga...
متن کاملInquiry into congruencies and trade-offs among conservation objectives requires a consistent typology of homogeneous types.
In their recent article, Karp et al. (1) address a serious problem inherent in nature conservation: the necessity for prioritization when faced with competing conservation objectives (cf. ref. 2). In principle, the authors (1) provide a very useful approach toward tackling this problem. However, a closer look reveals at least one substantial flaw: the underlying typology of conservation objecti...
متن کاملGames with lexicographically ordered $ω$-regular objectives
In recent years, two-player zero-sum games with multidimensional objectives have received a lot of interest as a model for intricate systems that are required to satisfy several properties. In this framework, player 1 wins if he can ensure that all objectives are satisfied against any behavior of player 2. It is however often natural to provide more significance to one objective over another, a...
متن کاملHealthy People 2000 midcourse revisions: a compendium.
As part of the continuing evaluation of the health of Americans, a midcourse review of the Healthy People 2000 objectives (1) added several new objectives and identified changes to some of the objectives released in 1990 (2). The midcourse review also documented numerous previous revisions to Healthy People 2000 baselines (3) and the setting of new targets for some objectives. The purpose of th...
متن کاملThe nature of individual choice: a formalism for utility function based on set theory
In the theory of social choice the research is focused around the projection of individual preference orders to the social preference order. Also, the justification of the preference order formalism begins with the concept of utility i.e. an alternative is preferred to another one if the utility over the first is higher then the utility over the second. In this paper is proposed an ideal model ...
